2015 Christmas Home Tour
Welcome to my first home tour. Ever. Being the amateur blogger that I am (and by amateur I mean I have to google "how to's" a lot) I have never participated in something like this.

Can you believe we're already talking Christmas? Where does the time go? If you're like me, the thought of Christmas decorating can be overwhelming. In Christmases past I have done extravagant and messy natural greenery. Every room was doused in Christmas magic. But, being the mom of three busy kids has given me a new approach.
This year I decided to stick with a sort of understated and cozy feeling. I wanted to keep things as they usually are and simply embellish what's already in our home year around. Plus, that makes clean up much easier!
With the addition of some poinsettias, plaid and wreaths...
The house is officially Christmas ready. Well, with the exception of our tree. That won't make its way in until next weekend.
The mantle is always my favorite to attack. Every year I tell myself, I'm just gonna do something simple and clean. I can never do it...I am a lover of greenery.
Thick, full, beautiful greenery! The base of this is full of faux greenery I have had in years past. Adding in some magnolia leaves and holly leaves from the yard makes it feel less faux. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE and prefer a beautiful cedar Garland. But, that can get expensive at an already costly time of year.
The addition of deer heads is no surprise around here to those who know us. And while I am not a hunter, I am married to one.
These stockings are a very favorite find on ebay. They are old quilts that were tattered and torn. And now they are something beautiful I look forward to bringing out every year.
Next up is the dining room. This year I departed from my traditional colors of red, green, navy, etc. to try something new. And it all started with a chair.
A granny chair, as everyone here likes to call it. I have lost count of the times people have asked me was I going to reupholster it. Heavens no!! The deep plums and cornflower blue colors are my favorite. And it tied in nicely with my old shutters. I don't know what it was about this chair, but I knew I would regret it if I didn't run back and buy it. It had been two weeks and I was SURE it was gone. Lucky me.
The white poinsettias and the understated greenery balance out the busy pattern in it so well. I mean tell me it is not the most chic granny chair you have ever seen!it won't stay here, but that's another project and another time.

And this sign. It is one I have had for several years. The saying sticks with me all day when I pass it by. Just a reminder of the reason for the season.

I purchased it from an antique sale in Cameron, NC. The vendor has a shop full of amazing and spiritual handmade goodness! The Promise store in Fayetteville, NC. If your local, definitely check it out.
I kept it crisp and clean in the dining room. This room is a pass through from the living room to the kitchen. These two rooms are generally very busy, so I like to give the eye a break. Plus it is not overtly Christmas, which means I can leave it up well past December 25th. And again...clean up is easy!
Our final stop is the kitchen....
The kitchen was sort of my spot to use more playful elements. The kids Christmas crafts from the past and colored lights give it a more informal feel. Which is great, because this is the hub of our home.
I have always wanted a home that felt cozy and inviting. Especially at Christmas time.
I found these adorable hand stitched napkins at a local antique store. I love the way pieces from the past can warm up a home.
